Johnny Marr, the British singer-guitarist and co-founder of the Smiths, has canceled the remaining dates on his U.S. tour “due to serious close family illness,” according to statement on his social media. Included were dates Dec. 16 at the Glass House in Pomona and Dec. 19-20 at the El Rey Theatre, all in support of his new solo album “Playland.”

No other details about the cancellations were announced. Said Marr in a statement: “I’m really disappointed to not be able to play the shows. The touring has been so enjoyable for me and the band and the audiences have been great everywhere. If it was about just me being unwell I would’ve found a way to continue as I did when I broke my hand earlier in the year, but to not be there for one of my family is not right. Thank you to everyone for the kind messages.”
