Saint Motel signed to Elektra Records

saintmotel2014Was it the insanely catchy songs? Was it the familiarity of having seen Saint Motel grow their theatrical rock around Los Angeles for better than six years now? Was it that “My Type” video, which has amassed more than 2.5 million plays now on YouTube? Probably all of the above, but Elektra Records today announced it has signed the SoCal quartet. A new full-length is on the way in 2015.

The band – singer A/J Jackson, guitarist Aaron Sharp, bassist Dak Jones and drummer Greg Erwin – came dashing out of Orange County in 2009 with their six-song, six-video EP “ForPlay.” They became live favorites, playing just about every festival you can imagine regionally, and in 2012 released their full-length, “Voyeur.” Their new EP, “My Type,” which came out in August via Parlophone Records, was built around a single they self-released in the summer of 2013. And they’ve made most of their progress on their own.

Said Jeff Castelaz, the Elektra president who is former head of L.A.-based indie Dangerbird Record: “Not only is Saint Motel an exceptional live band who writes stylish, brash pop songs, but … they are also the ultimate group of self-starters, who have built a substantial audience and a healthy business prior to landing on our doorstep.”
