When Swervedriver released the single “Deep Wound” in late 2013 — their first new music in 15 years — the reunited Londoners promised a new album in ’14. But what’s another year between friends? The Swervies, who straddled the line between ’90s British shoegazers and American grunge bands, today announced that the new album “I Wasn’t Born to Lose You” would be out March 3. It will be their first album since 1998, the end of a 10-year creative period that saw the band break out with a series of EPs on Creation Records and go on to release four full-lengths, including the acclaimed “Mezcal Head” (1993) and “Ejector Seat Reservation” (1995). The recent incarnation of Swervedriver includes original guitarists Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge, and the new single “Setting Sun,” with its dizzy guitar textures, bridges the sonic gap between Franklin’s side projects (Bolts of Melody, Magnetic Morning, Toshack Highway) and the old Swervedriver. Nice to re-meet you.
