Django Django’s 2012 debut ranked as one of our favorites of the year because it managed to marry ’60s psychedelic pop and ’80s synth-pop without sounding like anybody’s old master tapes had been raided. (“Hail Bop,” indeed. Will remember you at decade’s end.) The London-based Scots return this week with the new single “First Light,” a shimmering, disco-tinged number that finds the band — drummer-producer Dave Maclean, singer-guitarist Vincent Neff, bassist Jimmy Dixon and synth player Tommy Grace — just as harmonically sharp, their voices cascading over insistent beats. The quartet’s music remains somehow familiar but unpredictable, melodies and voices often detouring to unexpected places. Django Django promises news on an album soon.
