In advance of his third album “Eclipse,” due out on March 17, his first on major label Warner Bros., Twin Shadow’s George Lewis, Jr. and company played a one-off show Thursday night at the Troubadour before they embark on a North American tour this spring.

They launched into “Five Seconds” to begin the set, a hard-charging new-wavey standout from 2012’s “Confess,” and over the course of 70 minutes, they introduced
a handful of new songs to a sold-out crowd eager to take them in, as well as jamming out “Run My Heart” into a fantastic cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love.”

The mid-tempo “Turn It Up” shined with dueling guitar and synths; the power ballad “To The Top” surged in its choruses and showcased Lewis Jr.’s husky and soulful voice; and “Old Love / New Love” could have easily been a lost Rick Astley song, a dancey number that borrows from the past yet retains the band’s signature and timeless sound.

Lolawolf opened the bill with a 10-song set of electro-pop fused with R&B and tribal percussion. They played “Calm Down,” “Wanna Have Fun” and “What Love Is,” among others, and you could feel the bass reverberate through your entire body as their big sound boomed in the small room. Lead singer Zoë Kravitz’s sultry vocals sounded like Aaliyah meets FKA twigs, and had multiple people in the audience singing along or mouthing the lyrics.
