Alabama Shakes, the garage-soul terrors who rocketed out of Athens, Ala., five years ago and released their acclaimed “Boy & Girls” in 2012, today announced that their sophomore album “Sound & Color” would be out April 21 on ATO Records. The new release is advertised as a mix of soul, psychedelia and garage-rock, and the first single, the raw-boned rocker “Don’t Wanna Fight,” is rooted in the fertile soil of Southern blues from the moment frontwoman Brittany Howard kicks it off with a choked wail. The band — Howard with Heath Fogg, Zac Cockrell and Steve Johnson and joined by Ben Tanner live — begins a U.S. tour in early March and plays Coachella in April.
