L.A grunge-pop duo Spaceships are releasing their second LP, titled “Little Buddha,” on Feb. 24 via Unsatisfied Records. The album was recorded sporadically from 2010 to 2014, collecting 12 tracks of Spaceships signature lo-fi moodiness. Jessie Waite and Kevin LaRose know how to do the scuzzy garage-rock their way. Every song on “Little Buddha” sounds like a demo, and that raw one-take-ness is what makes their songs so honest. Both share vocals and both sound on the verge of boredom when they sing. The album opens with the “Sweet Jane”-esque “Woodz” and moves into the droney “Stone.” Their knack for homespun reverb and white noise are what makes Spaceships memorable in the garage-rock rebound. “The Boys Will Be Boys” is distorted and fuzzy with Waite screaming from what sounds like a bathroom two walls away. “I’m Five Alive” shows off some electronic beats and the album closes with the buzzing noise of la-la-along “Hellemenop.”
