Above:Â That’s the video for “L.A.F” by New Zealand’s brother-sister duo Broods. The track is off their debut “Evergreen,” which they’ll be supporting on two stops in town this week. Along with Mikky Ekko, they’ll be at the Fonda on Thursday and at the Observatory in OC on Friday.
Our staff picks of the week:
@KRBronson recommends: Nineties shoegazing/indie greats Swervdriver return this week with “I Wasn’t Born to Lose You,” their first album in 17 years. On the tour that kicks off this week, they have L.A. up-and-comers Gateway Drugs — whose debut “Magick Spells” also comes out this week — along as the openers. Catch both on Thursday at the Roxy.
@Seraphina_L recommends: If you need a show to get over hump day, the duo of soul singer Mayer Hawthorne and hip hop producer Jake — aka Tuxedo — play a record release show at the Regent Theater where they are joined by Peanut Butter Wolf and Dam-Funk. To kick off the weekend, the Echoplex offers a strong start with Viet Cong, Freak Heat Waves and Heathers.
