Before we get to the trippy video, here’s the bulletin: L.A. quintet Fool’s Gold will release their third album, “Flying Lessons,” in April (as a special Record Day Day vinyl release) and May (in other formats) via ORG Music. It’s the long-awaited follow-up to 2011’s “Leave No Trace” and, says frontman Luke Top, “is the culmination of countless hours of travel, gigs, success, failure, darkness, joy, and the stubborn insistence to move forward and create our best work to date.†“I’m in Love,” released as a single last fall, certainly felt like a success, their ’80s pop-meets-Afrobeat rhythms at their catchiest. The stop-motion video for “I’m in Love” is the work of New York-based director Sally Tran, who combined handmade animation with footage of the band she captured over video chat. Many of the cutouts were taken from sketches the band drew in the studio, inspired by caricatures of each other and characters in their songs. As with Fool’s Gold’s best work, it looks like there’s a party going on.
