Who: Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaries on the Main Stage.
In 3 or Fewer Words: Soul and glitter.
Memorable Because: For a guy who spent time moonlighting as a James Brown impersonator, it’s nice to see someone like Charles Bradley commanding the main stage as he does. With the most of the festival’s attendees young enough to be his grandchildren, Bradley was pulling moves on on stage even the too-cool-for-school kids were trying to emulate. The funk, soul and R&B singer even had dynamic costume change during the middle of his set — he went from a bright yellow outfit to a sparkling silver one where he shone from head to toe. (Literally. His shoes even glittered.) Wailing, two-stepping and gyrating for the masses, the 66-year-old was having the time of his life and the crowd made sure to let him know they were happy to celebrate the moment with him.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At Sylvan Esso: You chose minimal. I chose grandiose. The bigger the better, right?
