Who: RAC in the Mojave Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Remixer ups game.
Memorable Because: From renowned re-shaper of others’ songs to composer/collaborator on original music to live band — RAC principal Andre Alan Anjos has matched the growth spurts of his young fans over the past couple of years. Those fans packed the Mojave Tent for a late-afternoon set of smartly executed cherub pop featuring RAC’s polychromatic synths and deft hooks. The Portland producer/songwriter — remixer to the A-listers — is not the first console junkie to escape the studio and take his work onstage. And his nascent live band, which included his wife Liz (aka Pink Feathers), Troupe Gammage (of SPEAK) and Spencer Ludwig (the Capital Cities trumpeter), found the kids’ sweet spot. The set peaked when Penguin Prison [top photo] emerged to sing on “Hollywood,” his song on RAC’s collaboration-heavy 2014 album “Strangers.” Strangers? We’re all friends here.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were at Built to Spill: Demographically, worlds apart.
