Video: Robert DeLong, ‘Don’t Wait Up’

As anybody who’s witnessed one of Robert DeLong’s live performances can testify, it’s as much about how he does it as what he does. A multi-tasker extraordinaire, the L.A.-based singer-songwriter-drummer-producer-tornado plays Gamer Gone Giddy in re-creating his EDM in a live setting. And in the video for his new dance-floor jam “Don’t Wait Up,” DeLong brings his entire “command module” to desert — synths, sequencers, snares, MIDI pads and all. The single is one of those ready-for-20-remixes pop songs that seems to drop into the desert abyss only to materialize in a rave tent. And wait, is that a guitar he’s plucking? The biggest surprise for DeLong long-timers is not that he can craft electro gems, it’s that he’s switched up from his bright orange face paint. DeLong ushers in his “green period” with a new album Sept. 18, when “In the Cards” is released via Glassnote.
