Stream : Bully, ‘I Remember’

In a world where Courtney Love doesn’t have that awful (yet warranted) reputation she’d likely sound a lot like Bully. Or rather, Bully is the clean-cut typically angsty version of one disoriented Love. We’re forced to reminisce about women in rock in the early ’90s, but the slight flicker of pop keeps everything civilized and lovable in 2015. That being said, this Nashville-based four-piece does punk-grunge well on its debut album “Feels Like” (out this week), with fuzzy guitars and token distressed vocals. “I Remember” is a quick punch, lasting less than 2 minutes but telling the story of an entire relationship. Singer Alicia Bognanno (who once interned for Seve Albini) remembers everything from the naked photo to “meeting your dad,” knowing “everything that makes you mad.” Sure, the instrumentals are familiar but Bognanno’s unblushing accounts of maturing may question just how strong those balls of yours are. Rest assured Bully will be holding down the fort for female acts at the festivals in due time.
