New Jersey’s Titus Andronicus on July 28 will release its fourth album, “The Most Lamentable Tragedy,” a 93-minute rock opera on manic depression and its various manifestations that ranks as the most epic work of punk rock since Fucked Up’s “David Comes to Life” in 2011. It’s visceral stuff, musically and thematically, and, says singer-songwriter Patrick Stickles, who turns 30 the day the album is out, “Putting out this record is my way of closing the door on my twenties — sharing what I have learned, sorrowing what I learned too late.” (Recommended: This interview with Stickles.) This week, the band released the short film “The Magic Morning,” written and directed by Stickles and filmed and edited by Ray Concepcion. It encompasses the second act of the rock opera, including six songs from the album. Longtime fans will notice that the protagonist is missing something (the beard), but also that every song here absolutely sizzles with the energy that has made Titus Andronicus such a force the past decade. The album, a double-CD and triple-vinyl release, comes via Merge Records.
