Sisters Bianca “Coco” and Sierra “Rosie” Casady reveal the first tune from their as-yet-unnamed album due Sept. 18, their sixth record since forming in 2003. This live recording of “Heartache City” was done while on tour in Milan recently, with friend-musicians Tez and Takuya Nakamura. It represents a return to the more minimalist flavor of CocoRosie’s first album, “La Maison De Mon Rêve.” Stripping away the futuristic sounds of more recent work, the new album focuses on sparse, haunted, mystical lullabies for aliens, with less instrumentation. So sayeth CocoRosie: “We limited ourselves to essential, acoustic accompaniment, played by us, and select percussion, toys from our old suit cases. … Unlike our more psychedelic/electronic explorations of the last two records, our latest songs have a dusty Southern feel with old-timey poetry.” The album was written on their farm in the south of France — please take a moment to let your imagination run wild with the notion of these two creatures’ existence on an enchanted farm — and they finished recording it with Nicolas Kalwill in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a location that served to enhance the “teen-romance-nostalgic-mood” of the sisters’ new material. Want more? Tomorrow, July 16, CocoRosie is broadcasting a concert in Paris live on meerkat starting at about 8:30 p.m. Paris time. The link will be announced on their twitter in advance.
