Just another day at the office, right? Synth-pop chanteuse Little Boots headlined the Echo on Wednesday in support of her album “Working Girl,” giving a performance that was anything but workmanlike. Yes, the singer (born Victoria Christina Hesketh), her backup vocalists and DJ were all dressed in business casual — as were some in the crowd — in keeping with the album’s overriding theme that, Little Boots has explained, she is “essentially CEO of my own business and run an independent label.” But this was more like happy hour by the time Little Boots finally went on (late), with Hesketh sort of mocking the whole 9-to-5 thing and her backup singers very animatronic with their dance moves. Two songs in, she performed “No Pressure,” a song from the new album that was co-written by Leland (aka Brett McLaughlin), who opening the night. A highlight was “New in Town” — off Little Boots’ 2009 debut “Hands” — which she dedicated to Los Angeles, saying it was “written in L.A., about L.A., for L.A.” Leland’s set was all electronic drums and high notes — he can hit ’em — and included a cover of “Bitch Betta Have My Money.” Preceding Little Boots was the duo Gems, who soldiered through some problems with a balky guitar cable.
