L.A. native and indie-pop darling Lena Fayre has been teasing fans with mini videos (in collaboration with Alan Del Rio Ortiz) leading up to the all-encompassing new video for “Possession.” This is in conjunction with the release of her new EP, “Is There Only One?,” co-written by producer/mixer/songwriter Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart). The musically advanced and lyrically mature collection places the 19-year-old in the same sonic orbit as artists such as Lorde and Sky Ferreira. The lovelorn Fayre found herself on the losing side of a love triangle and used music to navigate her emotions. According to Fayre, “He chose her. The songs of ‘Is There Only One?’ reflect my state of mind as I processed, questioned, and eventually found peace with such a visceral experience with rejection.” The result is five brooding and synth-heavy tracks with R&B undertones. Fayre may not have the man of her teenage dreams, but at least she’s tapped into the well of inspiration shared by many great artists that came before her — being dumped.
