Ears Wide Open: Warbly Jets

So much delicious psych-pop, so little time. Warbly Jets are a new L.A. quartet featuring two recent New York City transplants, singer-guitarist Samuel Shea and keyboardist Julien O’Neill. Shea, who played the the NYC band Spires, and O’Neill embarked on the project last year under the name Quad, but after moving west and adding drummer Justin Goings and bassist Dan Gerbang, they became Warbly Jets. Or, as they boast with a wink, “lads strapped with phasers, coming for your ears, your money, your girlfriends, your faces.” The quartet certainly gets into your head with their new single “Psychomanteum,” named for the darkened, mirrored room in which one sits in hopes of communicating with the dead. And somewhere in the swirl of keys, you’ll swear you’re talking to somebody. Warbly Jets have been working on their debut EP at Shangri-La Studios, with Rob Bisel and Kevin Smith on production. No release date, but we’ll warble one when we know.
