Stream: SWIMM, ‘Belly’

SWIMM, the band built around Florida transplants Chris Hess and Adam Winn, are proving hard to pigeonhole. With their “Feel” EP and its re-release as they moved west, and then with singles such as “Beverly Hells” (“Will I be in town / when hell swallows Beverly Hills”), SWIMM showed a penchant for psych-rock with some meat on its bones. In other words, they’re never so spaced-out that they lose the plot, or suffocate the messages in their songs. (Plus, they’ve backed up their releases with viciously good live shows.) The duo’s new single “Belly” is a different shade, an angst-y rocker with one foot in the ’90s and the other in a beer-drenched L.A. warehouse show. It’ll appear on SWIMM’s “Beverly Hells” EP, which comes out Aug. 28.
