Swervedriver, the Lemonheads top lineup for Desert Stars Festival, Sept. 25-26

Weekend in Joshua Tree, anyone? Swervedriver and the Lemonheads top the bill for the eighth annual Desert Stars Festival at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown.

The independently promoted festival annually brings a stellar cast of psych-rock and shoegaze bands to the desert, and this year’s event (Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26) boasts two stages of music featuring the headliners and the likes of Lou Barlow, Dead Meadow, Alex Maas of the Black Angels, Spindrift, the Entrance Band, Gateway Drugs and Cosmonauts. There are 32 performers in all.

The festival started as a fund-raiser for various environmental charities, and, organizers say, “Our aim is to continue to support both our community of artists as well as find new ways to give back. Continuing the goal set forward in 2014, proceeds from this year’s festival will go towards the purchase of a land trust in the region with the goal of creating a new home for the festival beginning in 2016 or 2017.”

Ticket info: Weekend passes are $85, single-day tickets are $55 and camping is available on-site for $15. There are hotel packages available as well.
