Tijuana Panthers just released their stellar fourth album “Poster.” Cold War Kids recently ascended to No. 1 on their alternative singles chart with their song “First” from last year’s album “Hold My Home.” From some of same these minds comes the side project Coromandelles, whose debut album “Late Bloomers’ Bloomers” will be out Oct. 20 via Long Beach-based Porch Party Records (and on cassette from Burger). It’s the work of Tijuana Panthers singer-guitarist Daniel Michicoff, along with Cold War Kids’ Matt Maust (bass) and drummer Joe Plummer (who also plays in the Shins and last month released a solo album). Engineered by Plummer at his Seattle studio and including vocal contributions from Robyn Roth and Naomi Greene, the Coromandelles debut is self-described as “faux-French contemporary punk” — maybe that’s code for garage-pop that goes great with wine and cheese? The first single “The Project” is one noisy beast, with Michicoff’s echo-laden vocals floating high above some dirty surf-guitar riffs.
