Nashville’s Basecamp creates sultry, glitchy, R&B-based electronic music. This trio of producers — Aaron Miller, Aaron C. Harmon and Jordan Reyes — likes to experiment with textures, tempos, and percussive elements, creating sonic terrains that are full of little details and surprises for the discerning listener to relish. Take for instance the momentary pause in the first section of “Watch My Back,” serving almost as a trick. Did my record just skip? It is just as pleasant to get lost in the vocals, which are rich and smooth like melting butter. “Watch My Back” is from the group’s latest EP, “Greater Than,” their second release since emerging in 2013. The video was directed by Dylan Reyes, and follows a seductive but lost woman caught between realities. Speaking to the experimental nature of their new EP, Basecamp says, “Every song we did started with almost no direction or concept, so it was always interesting to see where they landed. It allowed each song it’s own identity without totally breaking the continuity.” May they merrily continue on this chosen non-directional path.
