The music at the Chinatown Moon Festival was great, really great — but so good that it induced labor? Maybe. L.A. trio Jag Sun opened the evening, and singer-guitarist Talip Peshkepia said later that his very pregnant wife Cristal “mentioned casually that she felt contractions during the show, and so we prepared to go home after our set. As soon as we got home, sure enough she realized it wasn’t a drill.” Today, the couple welcomed into the world Talip Ezra Peshkepia. “My baby politely let me play my set,” the new dad said. Congratulations are in order there, to be sure, and high fives for the rest of the night.

Resurgent Funeral Party attracted the biggest crowd of the night, with singer Chad Elliott commanding the stage. Enchantress Laura Peters and her band Psychic Love closed out the night with some heady, gauzy dream-pop.  Having just released a new EP, Kid Cadaver inspired a huge rush to the merch table after playing their second show of the day (their 8 p.m. Chinatown set followed a 3 p.m. gig at Lobsterfest in San Pedro). Warbly Jets impressed with a set of Britpop-flavored psychedelia; Sweet Bump It planted smiles on everybody’s face with their groovy blues; and the Rebel Light stoked anticipation for a new release with their sticky retro-pop.
