Many an L.A. indie-pop band are doing yeoman’s work these days, feeding the public hunger for hooks ’n’ harmonies, but local quartet Forebear continue to do sophisticate’s. Following up their poignant single “People’s Champ,” the band this week unveiled the second song from their forthcoming EP, “Cody.” It’s titled “Eon,” with its agitated rhythms, ricocheting guitars, yearning vocals and mournful strings, it recalls the early work of Local Natives (in their original lineup, with a string player). For the new EP, the quartet — singer-guitarist Scott Goldbaum, drummer Mike Musselman, violist-keyboardist Molly Rogers and bassist Nick Chamian — worked with producer Scott Gordon (Alanis Morissette, Ringo Starr). Like the band’s 2014 debut EP, “Cody” tackles some weighty subject matter. “The record talks a lot about bonds between people,” Goldbaum says. “If the record is encouraging people to aspire to anything, it’s all about finding peace over the course of suffering … reconciling with the fact you don’t have control over everything … and valuing the catharsis that comes from sharing.”
