Paul Weller, still making vital music after almost 40 years of making vital music, headline the Fonda Theatre on Thursday night in support of his new album “Saturns Patterns,” his 12th solo release. He and his band played five songs off the new album, part of a gobsmacking 28-song show that dipped into the Jam’s catalog for six songs (including “That’s Entertainment,” with Miles Kane of Last Shadow Puppets guesting, and “Town Called Malice” during the second encore, and “In the Crowd” during the first) and his music with the Style Council for two songs. Appropriately, the 57-year-old also covered Holland-Dozier-Holland’s “Heat Wave,” made a hit in the 1960s by Martha and the Vandellas. Villagers opened the night behind their latest album “Darling Arithmetic.”
