Festival Supreme returned Saturday for another year of over-the-topness. Hosted by the Tenacious D duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass (who were their audacious selves), it alternated between music and yuks and musical yuks. Fans at the Shrine could catch Rocket From the Crypt rock out, Andrew W.K. rock out even harder, the Darkness rock out even harder yet, and Die Antwoord do whatever it is they do. Or fans could wonder longingly who are behind PPL MVR’s masks; shake suggestively to Big Freedia; chuckle knowingly when Black and Amy Poehler dueted on “The Rose;” recoil clownishly to Puddles Pity Party; or laugh convulsively when Aubrey Plaza appeared as “Yolanda,” a Latina diva. Father Guido Sarducci was officiating weddings too, so there was plenty to toast.
