It got weird Saturday night at Deerhunter’s show at the Regent Theater, the second of two behind their new album “Fading Frontier.”

Plagued by persistent sound issues, frontman Bradford Cox finally lit into the sound man. “Are you fucking kidding me? Why don’t you get on the fucking stage and hear what it sounds like … Just turn off all the fucking monitors, I don’t need to hear this shit.” The problems were finally solved, but later a seemingly random female audience member climbed onstage and hugged Cox. Then she began to play keyboards, taking instructions from Cox. Deerhunter played “Nothing Ever Happened” for more 20 minutes, and later some crowd-surfers got a little rowdy. In the midst of calming things down, the venue’s security removed some of the railbirds’ belongings, which they had left on the edge of the stage. Cox paused to retrieve them for the fans. By then, Deerhunter had strayed far from the setlist from Friday night’s show.

Then, during the encore, Cox handed the potted plants that were onstage to the crowd, and it was plant carnage after that.

In his guise as Atlas Sound, Cox opened the show, the set going off without a hitch.
