An adorably pissed-off bohemian folk-rock song from Globelamp, “Controversial Confrontational” points a pretty finger at the falsehoods of everyone — men, women and self alike. Elizabeth Le Fey’s layered ethereal vocals weave in and out of the thick wash of sound like pulling rainbows out of dirty laundry. The song captures a feeling of both wanting to slap someone across the face and hug them at the same time, a genuine, confusing state of mind but one many of us know too well, and the love here is as palpable as the sorrow. It’s the first single from Globelamp’s album, “The Orange Glow,” which collects many a cautionary tale about being metaphorically drawn to the light only to get burned. In the darkness one finds warmth and wisdom too. The album arrives Oct. 27 through Joel Jerome’s new record label, Psychedelic ThriftStore Recordings. While the Los Angeles producer has long been recording some of the most exciting DIY bands in town, he’s finally decided to level up and take the reigns of his own music-releasing enterprise. We look forward to more jangly, reverb-drenched goodness.
