So much going on here. So much. David Bowie has unveiled the short film for “★” (Blackstar), the title track to his 25th album, due Jan. 8, Bowie’s 69th birday. The single is out Friday; it’s a jazz-inflected 10-minute suite that sweeps from Radiohead-like rhythms and synths to cloudy ambient excursions to “Space Oddity”-like verses in the second half. As for the video, director Johan Renck takes Bowie’s recurring outer-space themes and runs with them. Very far. You have to watch, and maybe wonder: Is this where Major Tom ended up? Gonna have nightmares.
