Canadian jangle-pop quintet Alvvays have been road warriors since the July 2014 release of their self-titled debut album — including a breezy stop in August at FYF Fest — and they returned to L.A. on Thursday night for a sunny set at the Echoplex. Smiling all around, and inducing smiles as well, the performed all but one song off that album and sprinkled in some new material they have been developing during their time off the road. “Atop a Cake,” “The Agency Group” and “Next of Kin” got things rolling, before the fresh track “New Haircut.” After “Ones Who Love You,” Molly Rankin and Alec O’Hanley led the band through the album bonus track “Underneath Us,” their first single “Adult Diversion” and the Camera Obscura cover “Lloyd, I’m Ready to Be Heartbroken.” Then, after the album’s fourth single “Party Police,” another new song “Your Type” followed, and the set ended with the jubilant “Dives” and “Archie, Marry Me.” Los Angeles Police Department opened the show.
