As advertised, the one-year anniversary of monthly club night Taking Back Tuesday turned into quite the blowout, even if it only partially lived up to its hashtag #emonightLA. There was a lot of pop and pop-punk (Green Day? American Hi Fi? Fountains of Wayne?) blaring out of the soundsystems during DJ sets at the Echo and Echoplex, but if you’re going to franchise nostalgia for this particular era, you can’t just stick with Sunny Day Real Estate, right? Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional gave a rousing solo performance, moistening plenty of eyes, one of several live performances that went down easy with DJ sets from the likes of All Time Low, FIDLAR and Mark Hoppus (who engaged in some pop-punk karaoke).
