The 1975

Manchester quartet The 1975 have been quite the tease lately. They caused mass hysteria among teenage girls after posting cryptic messages and shutting down their social media accounts over the summer, leading many to believe the band was calling it quits. However, all was well after a countdown on their website led to a complete re-branding in which The 1975 seem to be completely embracing their inner ’80s, blue eye shadow and all. Their sophomore album, “I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It,” is due Feb. 26, following their self-titled guitar-driven pop debut that reached No. 1 on the U.K. charts. They’ve slowly been posting photos of the album’s tracklist in lights on social media, but fans already have the first single, “Love Me,” to relish. The Bowie-esque track builds on The 1975’s signature sound with ’80s undertones, funky guitars and a danceable beat. The video, directed by Diane Martel, also features some old The 1975 staples – models and creativity – as well as their new, brighter (and pinker) image. Still inducing panties to drop, a shirtless and leather-clad Matt Healy parties with cardboard cutouts of celebrities from Ed Sheeran to Elvis and enjoys a tasty foot in the jacuzzi, as one does. If “Love Me” is any indication, The 1975 will be giving the sophomore slump an irreverent middle finger in February … while dancing.
