Tuxedo, aka Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One

Tuxedo appears on Amazon’s holiday compilation “Indie For The Holidays,” alongside original Christmas songs by YACHT, Rogue Wave, Lisa Loeb, Langhorne Slim, Matisyahu, Ivan & Alyosha, A Silent Film, Sondre Lerche & Jherek Bischoff, adding a boogie meets g-funk good time tune for getting to third base with somebody under the mistletoe.

In case anyone wants to check compatibility, Mayer Hawthorne’s sign is Aquarius, and Jake One is a Taurus, and they started collaborating as Tuxedo after Jake One — who makes beats for the likes of Rick Ross and Drake — produced a bonus track on Hawthorne’s 2013 album, “Where Does This Door Go.” This past March, Tuxedo released their self-titled debut album on Stones Throw. For this, Jake One left the sampler at home and went all analog to mesh a post-disco funk sound with Hawthorne’s throwback style, which then got the signature mix from original disco dude John Morales in South Plainfield, N.J. Hawthorne reports that he was fed spaghetti while there.

So whether you’re eating spaghetti or ham or latkes this holiday season, there’s surely a warm place in your living room for some funky R&B sleigh bells. Rumor has it that if you are getting cozy with a special someone and “Holiday Love” hits at a certain frequency, two men in white tuxedo jackets will pop out with a saxophone, and they want to watch.
