Premiere: Haunted Summer, ‘Dawn of the Red’

The new single from Los Angeles dream-pop duo Haunted Summer suggests something supernatural is going on in the orbit of songwriters Bridgette Moody and John Seasons. The gossamer “Dawn of the Red” is an ornately orchestrated vision, with Moody’s stratospheric vocals carried by woodwinds and strings (played by Andy Page, Amara Sperber and Mathew Cartmill) arranged by Brendan Eder and backed by Dante Johnson’s tribal drums. The song, the first to emerge from Haunted Summer’s forthcoming album “Spirit Guides,” was recorded between two studios, Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene, Ore., and Dave Catching’s Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, and produced by James Book. We’re assuming the album — the duo’s first release since July’s odds-and-sods alternate-version release “Birth” — will arrive in time to haunt your summer. Until then, this can fuel your dreamlike state.
