Kitten rose to the occasion Saturday night, with frontwoman Chloe Chaidez see-sawing between fits of frenzy and breathy moments of tenderness in the band’s biggest headlining show to date. Newly free of label affiliations, Chaidez and gang pushed forward with a wide-ranging set of songs old and new. Those vintage songs — like “Kitten With a Whip” and “Kill the Light,” from Saturday’s encore — are six-plus years old, but they sounded not out of place at all amid the four new songs Kitten played from their forthcoming EP. The big new single “Fall on Me” kicked off the night, with freshly minted “Church,” “Knife” and “Rapture” to turn up later. The band’s range of cover songs was interesting too: a medley of David Bowie’s “Lady Stardust” and “Heroes,” with Selena Gomez’s “Good for You” earlier and Depeche Mode’s “Policy of Truth” during the encore. “Like a Stranger,” “G#” and “Cut It Out,” from the band’s 2014 full-length, wound up the faithful, and by the end of the night Chaidez was merrily crowd-surfing.
Hunny and Olivver the Kid opened the show.
