Jon Bunch, lead singer of South Bay hardcore/emo standouts Sense Field, has died at age 45.

Formed in Redondo Beach 1990, Sense Field released five albums together despite spending a five-year period in a legal squabble with their label, Warner Bros. They had a hit in 2002 with “Save Yourself,” and finally disbanded in 2004.

Bunch, who got his start with the late-’80s hardcore band Reason to Believe, went on to take Chris Carraba’s place in Further Seems Forever until 2006. Sense Field reunited for a few shows in 2012.

He went on to front War Generation, and he had just released an EP with his new band Lucky Scars on Dec. 4, and the band was set to play Alex’s Bar in Long Beach on Feb. 20.

A Facebook post from his current band, Lucky Scars said, “It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend and fearless leader, Jon Bunch, RIP Johnny Scars. We will see you on the other side.”

Circumstances of Bunch’s passing were not yet available.
