All hail the mighty rickenbacker on this new Frankie and the Witch Fingers song, “Merry Go Round.” Finding a sweet spot between jangly and shoegaze, Dylan Sizemore, Glenn Brigman, Josh Menashe, and Alex Bulli craft their own modern version of “psychedelic flower power” that’s edgy with paisley underpinnings. “Merry Go Round” comes from a 7-inch which will be released by a new local DIY label, Hypnotic Bridge, on April 1. Directed by Anton Goddard, the video is pretty, strange, bloody, and mysterious, just like love. “We were trying to do something more sinister to contrast the light and bubbly pop song, we wanted to do something more original and strange,” Sizemore says. “In a simple way, it’s about love, but it’s also like, an ode to love songs. Just like, falling more and more in love every day.” Nothing says love like lying in a pool of blood while a pretty girl dances on a table by your side.
