Bayonne is the new nom de tune of Austin’s Roger Sellers, the electronic composer who wowed crowds at SXSW with his mad-scientist stage show and ecstatically propulsive pop. He is something to behold, and looping devices, live drums and samplers are his weapons of choice as he builds songs piece by piece from melodic phrases, beats and found sounds. Sellers’ album “Primitives” was originally released in 2014, but it gets revised and expanded for a re-release this Friday on Mom+ Pop Records. [Stream it in full here.] Sellers professes to be a fan of the expansive drum tones of Phil Collins, but the melodic complexities of his music transcend the beats. The video for “Appeals” (below) will give you an idea of how Sellers does it; what he makes is just a special.
