Australian quartet Gold Class earned a gold star or two last week at the South by Southwest Music Festival for their vein-bulging post-punk, which is as rhythmically daunting as it is politically thorny. Their album “It’s You” has been called The Smiths-meets-Joy Division, which is pretty apt, and it’s not hard to imagine singer Adam Curley and mates Mark Hewitt, Evan James Purdey and Jon Shub bonding over the likes of Gang of Four and Danzig too. The album was nominated for the Australian Music Prize (won by Courtney Barnett), and the quartet’s post-Austin touring this weekend brings them to two cozy L.A. venues where the intensity figures to be extra high. “It’s You” came out last fall via L.A.-based Felte Records (Sextile, Ritual Howla, Public Memory, Flaamingos).
