A year and a half after Big Star was saluted at a huge charity concert at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, the legendary power-pop band is focus of another tribute. “Thank You, Friends: Big Star’s Third Live” will be staged April 27 at Glendale’s Alex Theatre and will feature some of the same players as the 2014 concert, including original Big Star drummer Jody Stephens.

The cast of players includes Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer of the Posies, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Mitch Easter of Let’s Active, Chris Stamey of the dB’s, Jeff Tweedy and Pat Sansone of Wilco, Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo, Robyn Hitchcock, Dan Wilson of Semisonic, Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jessica Pratt, Brett Harris, Django Haskins, Skylar Gudasz and more. The Kronos Quartet will anchor a chamber orchestra conducted by Carl Marsh, who wrote the original Big Star orchestrations.

The 2014 concert coincided with the release of a Big Star DVD/CD by Ominovore Recordings. This concert, presented by Concord Bicycle Music, will be filmed for a DVD release.

The fare will include favorites such as “In the Street,” “September Gurls” and “Thirteen,” as well as the entire “Third” album.

Tickets are $25 ($75 for orchestra seating).
