Ears Wide Open: Secret Garden

The new song from the Los Angeles quintet going by the name Secret Garden (no, not the long-running Norwegian duo) feels like an apparition, wrapped in a mystery of echoing guitars and off-kilter keyboards. “Tiger Meat” is the first taste of a new EP, due this spring, from the experimental dream-pop outfit founded three years ago by Dani Evans. The singer-guitarist, along with guitarist Jordan Fielder, keyboardist Johann Carbajal, bassist David Von Hegedus and drummer Jordan Hermosillo, made it in Warpaint’s studio in downtown L.A., and it marks the production debut of that band’s Theresa Wayman (her brother Ivan engineered). This is a song that keeps its distance, no matter how badly you want to reach out and embrace it.
