Ex Hex were good in the bright afternoon sun of Coachella last Saturday. In the sold-out Echo on Thursday night, the D.C. trio of Mary Timony, Laura Harris and Betsy Wright were downright explosive. That made it look easy — play 11 of the 12 songs from their album “Rips,” solo a little, sweat a little and somehow make good ’ol muscular, shreddy guitar rock sounds fresh. Philadelphia punk rockers and fellow Coachella band Sheer Mag preceded them with an even grittier set.
