Following his 2015 album “Invite the Light,” Los Angeles’ funk emissary DâM-FunK, née Damon Garrett Riddick, is set to release his edition of the long-running DJ-Kicks mix series on May 27. It will feature 19 tracks of “modern funk,” which he describes as, “a combination of … funk, boogie, electro, house, modern-soul, ambient tones” culled from decades of material with “a push and pull of nostalgia and progressiveness.” It will also feature a collaboration with Nite Jewel, billed as Nite-Funk on the song “Can U Read Me?” and an exclusive cut from DâM-FunK called “Believer,” a nearly 8-minute instrumental track built on a percussive loop, and bolstered along the way with a barrage of synth layers and flourishes that will suck you into its trance. Pre-order it here.
