When Texan post-rockers Explosions in the Sky gave sold-out shows Thursday and Friday at the Theatre at Ace Hotel, they let their music and the 89-year-old Spanish Gothic-style theater be the stars of the show. The quartet’s light show was spectacular, emphasizing mood over the identities of the band members. The crowd remained rapt for most of the evening, save a few monstrous roars and a standing ovation at the end. They played four songs from the new album “Wildnerness,” their sixth, and finished with the chill-inducing 2003 jam “Memorial.”
Setlist: The Birth and Death of the Day, Tangle Formations, The Only Moment We Were Alone, Greet Death, The Ecstatics, Let Me Back In, Disintegration Anxiety, Colors in Space, Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean, Logic of a Dream, Memorial.
