Tommy Santee Klaws says his new song “simply refers to someone who is evil and undesirable to associate with. You know, a he-who-must-not-be-named,” but you and I and everyone likely has a certain “Shit Piece” in mind when the chorus comes on, offering a safe, gentle outlet for damning the least desirable person in your life with lines like “I dream your stomach falls out.” Without raising his voice above a whisper, Klaws is dark yet spiritual, a man whose music moves audiences in a soothing cathartic way — meanwhile, this tortured soul drags along a dark, tangled trail of demons that torment his everyday existence. And yet he’s one of the nicest people on earth. Go figure. Klaws has a new album, “Oh Beast,”, on his own label, Mental Illness Recordings, following last year’s “Into The Brine” with a warm yet sinister collection of songs. In his words, “There’s violence. There’s anger. There’s torn flesh. There’s disembowelment. And that’s just the first minute of ‘Shit Piece’.” It’s catchy, too.
