Like virtually all the garage- and psych-rock bands circling L.A., Mind Meld are are loud, hard, fast and fuzzy. Unlike most of them, they write monster hooks that stick in your head long after your ears have stopped ringing. The latest from singer-guitarist Bert Hoover, bassist Erik Lake, drummer Liz Tooley and synth player Jeff Fribourg is “Viper,” an over-driven 2 1/2 minutes of red-hot fuzz. It gives us air guitar face. “Viper” (b/w “Whine”) is available as a limited-edition 7-inch via Permanent Records and Mock Records.
