You know about fun in the sun. How about fun powered by the sun?

The Sunstock Solar Festival — a solar-powered, nonprofit music and arts event — debuts June 18 at the Autry Museum in Griffith Park with a formidable lineup of indie-rock bands including Cults, WavvesAllah-Las, the Big Pink, Kaki King, Gateway Drugs and Yoya.

Tickets are $20 and available here. They are $25 day of show.

The festival is the brainchild of songwriter Skylar Funk of Trapdoor Social (who also will perform). Funk started the band with Merritt Graves at Pomona College, where the duo were studying environmental science, and has devoted much of his efforts, musical and others, to the campaign for renewable energy.

“Music has a way of uplifting, re-energizing and inspiring people. If we can create a positive experience that is also pointed towards a cause and a purpose, we can be more effective and we can be re-energized,” says Funk, who has staged solar-power concerts before. “We come together not just to party and listen to music, but because we know that there has to be a change and we want to be part of the solution.”

Besides live music, the evening will include local artists, food trucks, a bar (with proper ID), vendors and nonprofit and community partners.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. on June 18, with the music starting at 5.
