To listen to SWIMM’s “Beverly Hells” EP is to be taken on a psych-pop joyride propelled by buoyant guitars and choruses. To see the band Wednesday night at the Echo was to rock out.

The L.A. quintet helmed by Florida transplants Chris Hess and Adam Winn, backed by a new live lineup including members of Goldensuns (who opened the night), displayed newfound muscle and the propensity to turn their songs into big psych-rock jams. From a stage guarded by tinfoil figurines (we’re still not sure what that was all about), Hess started the night with a spoken-word prologue before the band launched into an hour of music. There was a snippet of a Prince cover, which he cut short when he suddenly decided he wasn’t worthy. (Genuflect.) And there were juiced-up versions of the EP’s singles “Belly” and “All the Time,” along with a couple new songs.

Moon Honey beamed in from the heavens to deliver a rapturous support set, and Goldensuns started the night.
