Video: Thee Commons, ‘Chico Che’

Thee Commons

Psychedelic cumbia punk band Thee Commons blend the party-ready energy of their musical influences to create something unique, fun and irresistible. Last year Burger Records put out a compilation of the band’s eight-volume limited edition EP series (first self-released individually in 2014) called “Rock is Dead: Long Live Paper and Scissors.” This past April, Burger released the band’s new album “Lotería Tribal,” which is cumbia gone punk-rogue in the best sense. Led by brothers David and Rene Pacheco, the album was recorded in just two days. Live at shows, these guys are as likely to throw in their cover of Selena’s “Baila Esta Cumbia” as they are to perform Nirvana’s “Love Buzz,” straddling demographics like pioneers on saddle, galloping along the psychedelic open range. Thee Commons are ready for the road, as evidenced in the “Chico Che” video, with flavored condoms packed in the trunk. Watch out.
