“High Times” is the buoyant first single from singer-songwriter Emma Cole, an L.A.-based native of West Chester, Pa. Her often-wrenching autobiographical narratives are sourced in her tumultuous experiences as a teenager; as a collection of songs, she says, “It’s real, it’s rugged, it’s dirty, it’s sad and then it’s happy again.” “High Times” was produced by Robb Torres of Robbery Inc. (she sang on their recent EP). In the video, directed by Alison Roberto and Paola Trulin, the tousled songstress sorts through her memories — not to mention her wardrobe, suggesting changing one’s skin doesn’t change the past. The lush chorus is like a dip in the pool, with Cole declaring with her bright, bluesy voice that “I’m more alive than I’ve been in my entire life.”
